It pays to keep on looking for appliance rebates.
In New Jersey, for instance, the ARRA Energy Star Appliance Rebate program has ended, but the state's Clean Energy Program recently instituted a $20 rebate for the purchase of a new Energy Star-qualified room air conditioner through August 31, 2010, with the rebate application and all required documentation postmarked by September 30, 2010. Check with your utility or state for details on available incentives and also use this rebate locator at EnergyStar.gov.
If you're in the market for a new room air conditioner, read our July 2010 review of air conditioners, see our free buyer's guide to A/Cs, and check out our ratings (available to subscribers). Read "What to Do With the Clunkers You Replace Through Cash

Cash for appliances has closed in 17 locations, and rebates are still
available in 34 states and
territories. To see how much money remains where you live and for

West
Virginia is scheduled to start its cash for
appliances rebate program on June 17, and Tennessee's
is also supposed to begin this month. The District of Columbia and Nebraska
will launch theirs in July. Guam's program was
supposed to start in late May, but its status is unclear.
